Dog days of summer

Since we did so much celebrating over the weekend, Kim's actual birthday was pretty quiet. Eric did surprise her with flowers, dinner and the most hilarious birthday card ever, though!

Kim was displaced at work this week as her office got painted on Tuesday. She had to move all of her stuff (including everything in the desk drawers and file cabinets...ugh!) to an empty office down the hall. Unfortunately, she didn't get back in to her office until Friday and it still smells strongly of paint. The good news is that it looks great (three khaki walls and one teal wall) and she found an oscillating fan that's helped with the fumes. She spent most of the day Friday reorganizing her office, so hopefully there's not much that still needs to be done this week.

With the crazy weather (so humid and muggy), Kim woke up with a migraine on Thursday. Needless to say, she spent the day in bed. Peanut was a good caretaker though, and spent all day curled up by her side.

Kim's dad arrived on Friday night to stay with us for the weekend. It's been great to get to spend some time with him -- especially since we don't know when we'll get to see him again! Since we've had company, we've also eaten well all weekend: crockpot chicken; steaks on the grill; chicken bruschetta. Mmmm. Maybe we need to have company more often?

Saturday was a big day for both Eric and Peanut: Splash and Dash! This annual event is held at our local dog park. On the day before they drain the community swimming pool, they open it up to all the dogs. There are also lots of local pet vendors who set up booths and provide free treats. As you can imagine, Peanut was in heaven! He wasn't interested in the pool at all (in fact, he hated the water), but he had a great time chasing over 100 of his new best friends all over the park. He also came home with quite the loot bag...a stuffed toy, a frisbee, and at least three bags of dog treats! He was also one tuckered out pup and slept most of the afternoon.

Today was full of miscellaneous errands. We got our new stove ordered, and it will be delivered tomorrow. We're looking forward to having matching appliances in the kitchen -- and a stove that actually cooks at the correct temperature. We lucked out and got a "professional grade" oven on sale so it only cost $50 more than the regular stove we were eyeing. With any luck, our food will also taste "professional grade" now. We can hope, right!? We also picked out hardware for the kitchen cabinets and new lighting fixtures for the living room and dining room. I think our plan is to start installing those next weekend. Don't worry: we'll post pictures of the "new" kitchen when it's all done.

Our fantasy football draft is in just two hours. We're excited to pick our teams and watch the games on Sundays!

Current gas price: $3.75/gallon (though we did fill up for $3.47 on Tuesday!).
