More visitors! (We must be popular.)

On Monday after work, Kim had stopped by the garden center to pick up some fertilizer and spring flowers. Eric put down the fertilizer while Kim planted the flowers, which really added a lot of color to the front beds.

We woke up on Tuesday to a heavy rain shower, so we were glad we got the fertilizer down the night before. Unfortunately, however, the day went downhill from there. When Kim took Peanut out for his morning walk, she couldn't see the new flowers she planted. Thinking the rain had beaten them down, she walked into the garden for a closer look...and the flowers were GONE. Ugh - bunnies! At least they left the daffodils and tulips. So, she grabbed her stuff and headed to work. When she got to work, she noticed her water bottle was empty...but her bag was soaked. Guess that explains where the water went. On the bright side, the day ended with ice cream cake, so at least there was a silver lining.

Eric's mom and dad arrived on Friday night, and we enjoyed spending time with them all weekend. It's hard to believe we haven't seen each other since early December - time has surely gone by quickly! On Saturday, Eric and his dad investigated installing a new water heater for the house, but after a lot of research it looks like it was going to be a bigger pain than we were looking for in a weekend (like everything else in our house, it looks like the original install job was a bit of a free-for-all, which does not make for easy updating!).

Unfortunately, the weather was much colder this weekend than at had been all week - but at least we didn't get snow like other parts of the Midwest! Since it was so chilly, we spent most of the time in the house, chatting, watching basketball and playing cards.

Flyer Fever

The Flyers beat the WVU Mountaineers during the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday. But we're guessing you heard our cheering and figured that out already! Eric took a half day off work so he could watch the game, and Kim and her coworkers gathered to watch the game at the office. Given the unpredictableness of this team, we weren't getting our hopes up, but this is one game that definitely did not disappoint! The team played with a great energy, and there were dunks galore. And when all was said and done, we won our first NCAA tournament game in 19 years. Great feeling!

The madness continued on Saturday night as we went to a surprise birthday party for our friend Katie, where we celebrated and kept tabs on all the evening basketball games.

Today we met our friends Julia and Tony at a local sports bar to watch our Flyers take on the Kansas Jayhawks in the second round of the tournament. While we played great defense, we could not hit a bucket (seriously, there was a force field around the hoop. NOTHING went in), so we ended up losing pretty handily. It was really fun to watch the game on the big screen with lots of other Flyer fans though - the entire place would erupt with cheers on a big play. While we were sad to lose, we couldn't be too upset...all in all, it was a great year!

And in non-basketball news, someone turned old this week. In celebration, we went to the Oakwood Club, a fancy steak/seafood place, for dinner. The food was quite tasty, and it was nice to have a relaxing evening. As for Eric's favorite birthday gift: homemade fruity marshmellow Krispies.

The madness begins

Happy Selection Sunday! Of course, we had to wait to post the blog until after the field of 65 had been announced and we'd listened to/read all the analysis and commentary about the tournament. We're extremely happy that our beloved Flyers will be dancing - and taking on West Virginia. We're also excited that three A-10 teams were selected (even if one of them happens to be Xavier). Now we just have to spend the next few days debating our bracket picks!

This weekend was full of activity. Melissa, Dave and Addison were coming to Ohio for the weekend, so Melissa and Addison were going to spend Friday night and Saturday with us while Dave met up with friends. Unbeknowst to all of us, though, a new casino opened on Friday night and the trio ended up sitting on the highway for over an hour - fun. Melissa and Addison finally got to our house about midnight, and we all quickly fell asleep. Apparently Addison and Sebastian (the dog) were up off and on throughout the night, but neither of us heard them. Not sure if that's a good thing or not!

We had a great time on Saturday just hanging out and catching up. Sebastian and Peanut absolutely loved chasing each other around the house. Though Sebastian was smart and was taking shortcuts through the furniture so he didn't have to exert as much energy as Peanut did. Amazingly, neither dog ever seemed to tire...though Peanut did sleep most of the day today!

We, of course, fawned over Addison and took a ton of pictures (86 pictures in 17 hours!). Here are a few of our favorite:

Then on Saturday night we went to a welcome home/birthday/St. Patrick's day party at a friend's house. We ended up seeing several people from college we hadn't seen in a few years - so it was great to catch up.

Today we lounged around and watched basketball coverage all day. Danielle came over for dinner and to watch the selection show - and we had cookies and creme to celebrate Eric's birthday. (It's not too late to send gifts!).

Go Flyers!

The weather the past few days has been absolutely gorgeous - it feels like May instead of March. This is good news because this same weekend last year, we got two feet of snow. We'll take the 60-degree weather any day! The crocus have bloomed in the garden, and the daffodils are starting to peak through the ground. Hopefully it means spring is really here!

As for our week...Kim's mom is in town for a few days, so we've enjoyed spending time with her (and Kim's dad, too!).

On Friday night, we headed to a fish fry with several friends (Julia, Tony, Stacy and BJ). After finally finding a place that wasn't sold out of fish yet (don't they know it's lent!?), we had a good time talking, laughing and eating a boatload (no, really) full of fish.

The Flyers ended regular season play at home on Saturday. And of course, we were there to cheer them on. The game was a big deal as we were playing for seeding and a first-round bye in the A-10 tourney. After coming out a little flat, the Flyers pulled out a big win over the Dukes. This win was also a big deal for other reasons - we went undefeated at home (first time to do that since our current arena opened in 1969), won 25 games (highest in school history) and had the largest number of tickets sold in a season. Phew! We also tied for second in the league, but ended up seeded third due to the tie breaker. Atlantic City, here we come!

In honor of the nice weather, we picked up the yard today and took Peanut to the dog park. He wasn't nearly as wild as he is some days - maybe he's starting to grow out of the puppy stage! There were over 15 other dogs there, though, so he had a great time running around.

Happy birthday, dear Peanut

Our highlight this week was Peanut's birthday. It's hard to believe that our pup is three...and that time is going by so quickly!

The rest of our week was pretty low key since we're both battling colds. In fact, it's safe to say we did pretty much nothing but rest on the couch all week.

On Saturday, Eric and Kim's dad went to the Flyers game - and were very happy to cheer them on to victory! We're down to two games in the regular season, and we're keeping our fingers crossed that we finish strong. We need to win at least one of the next two games, and make a run in the A-10 tournament, in order to have a hope of getting into The Dance. Keep your fingers crossed!

Today, we did a million loads of laundry, dusted and vacuumed. We also finished taxes (ugh, don't even get us started) and took Peanut to the groomer. Okay, so not the world's most exciting week, but they can't all be exciting, can they?
