Winter weather and a Peanut story

Boring week here. Kim had an all-day conference ("professional development") on Tuesday, and she was supposed to have another one on Friday. However, we got hit with ice storm an ice storm Thursday night/Friday morning. The roads were slick enough that Kim's work was cancelled...though they delayed three times before finally closing for the day. So, even though she ended up with the day off, she'd already gotten up and dressed. Oh well! Eric had a super busy week at work. One of their clients was having significant issues, so a team of developers worked late (really, really late) all week to get them up and running again.

Unfortunately, the icy weather ruined our weekend plans. We'd hopped to go sledding/tubing with some friends, but we figured sledding down a mountain that was blanketed in a sheet of ice wasn't the best idea.

And our highlight of the week? Peanut! First, a cute story: we were watching TV on Wednesday night and there were dogs on the TV. Peanut wandered over, sat down next to us, rested his head on the coffee table, and watched the entire episode intently. And our puppy is now a big dog as he celebrated his birthday this weekend. Not sure what's worse -- that he's in the terrible twos in people years or that he's in his teens in doggie years. Yikes.

Carpet issues strike again

Looks like the weekend escaped us again. Hope you weren't waiting with bated breath to hear about our week :)

Let's see. This week has been a strange one weather-wise. On Monday night, they were predicting 10 inches of snow. The storm ended up missing us (well, technically the storm split and went on either side of us), so we only got about an inch of snow -- and a bunch of ice. Kim's office was closed until noon, and then she decided to work from home the rest of the day. Eric decided if the weather was bad enough that Kim's office was closed he probably shouldn't be on the roads either -- so he worked from home, too. It was nice to be home all day, but it really confused Peanut! Of course, this weekend our high reached 62. See if you can figure that one out!

As you may remember, we had our carpet picked out last week. Or so we thought. We got a call mid-this week saying that the manufacturer had stopped making that style. So even though we'd paid for the carpet and had been given a delivery date, we were out of luck. That meant we spent Saturday morning at the store with our carpet swatch. We eventually settled on another kind/color. Hopefully it'll turn out okay!

Last night we met up with Kim's dad at The Pub. It was our first time there, and it was a lot of fun-- real British pub food,a huge selection of drinks from around the UK and rugby on TV.

A Flyer win...and loss

Brr. I don't know how weather can be this consistent, but every year we've been in town, there's been a snowstorm (normally a big one) the week of Valentine's Day. This year looks like it will be no exception -- we're -10 with 50 mile gusts tonight, and we're expected to get 3-6 inches on Tuesday. Great.

Wednesday night turned out to be full of unexpected fun. We each were invited to the Flyers game (unbeknownst to the other), so we ended up with more basketball tickets than we knew what to do with! The game was great, and the Flyers pulled out a win in the last 2 minutes. Phew. Unfortunately, they weren't as lucky on Saturday when they lost on the road to a team who had been 1-7. Ugh.

While the work week had its stressful moments, it ended on a high note as Kim's office went bowling after work on Friday. It was a lot of fun to chat and relax with everyone -- plus eat pizza and bowl two games!

Our weekend was a hodgepodge of activity. We waited around all morning for a contractor to stop by and measure for our new carpet. Of course, he was scheduled to be here between 8-1...and, you guessed it, he showed up at 12:45. After he left, we hopped in the car to try to make it to cousin Kyle's regional basketball tournament game. As we pulled in the parking lot, we saw Aunt Sue running out to get their van -- Kyle chipped his thumb during the tip off! So, we followed them to Urgent Care and chatted while Kyle got fixed up.

Basketball and football and groundhogs, oh my!

With a three game losing streak headed into Wednesday's game, the Flyers needed a big win. Luckily, we had Eric's Mom, Dad and Grandpa to go with us to the game to cheer them on to a victory. While they were only in town for the night, it was nice to see them for a few hours!
On Saturday, we ordered new living room carpet (hooray!). After going to two stores, we were finally able to find someone who was helpful -- and could tell us if the carpet we had installed in the bedrooms was still manufactured. Good news: it is, so our carpets will match.

In case anyone was concerned, Eric's Super Bowl jinx is still alive and well. For the past 15 years or so, whatever team Eric roots for loses. And we're talking every single year. He was sure this year was going to be different and the jinx would be broken. After all, how could the 18-0 Pats lose? Well, as you know, they lost, and Eric's streak continues. For those of you keeping count, Kim was rooting for the Giants :)

We're also excited because our local groundhog did not see her shadow today. Hopefully she's a better meterologist than the people on the morning news, because we'd love for spring to be on its way!

Back from Florida

It's hard to believe it's Sunday night. It feels like it's been a week of Mondays! That also means we don't have too much to report.

Eric was in Flordia for business and just got home in time for supper tonight. Although he was gone all weekend, he's back to work tomorrow. It's hard to feel TOO bad for him, though, since he came home with a tan! While he was gone, Kim had several girls nights with her friend Danielle. They watched several chic flicks, went shopping, and ate out.

After our frigid cold weather as of late, we're supposed to have a heat wave early this week. It's only supposed to last for a day or two, but we'll take it!

Brrrr

Greetings from the Antarctic! At least, it's felt that way this week. With the windchill, we were in negative temperatures for the better part of the weekend...brrr! You'd think that the cold temperatures would keep us inside, but what fun would that be?

On Friday night, we met our friends Allie and Ryan for dinner. On Saturday, we ran a few errands (and Eric got a new coat), and then we met up with Barbi, Andy, Mike and Erin for dinner. We'd also planned to see a movie but we showed up "in between showings" of most things. On a whim, we picked Charlie Wilson's War (since it was the next movie to start and we were worried the security guard was going to kick us out for loitering if we didn't pick something quickly!). It turned out to be a good movie that everyone seemed to enjoy. Today we headed back to the theatre to see Juno. Now that I think about it, we've probably seen more movies in the last two weeks than we did all of last year.

We won't bore you with the details of work, but it was busy for both of us again this week. Hopefully in the next month or so things will start to calm down for both of us!

Mexico or bust!

Both of us put in quite a few extra hours at work this week, and we were very relieved by the time Friday rolled around! In a nutshell, Eric worked on converting new clients over to their software system, and Kim worked on several different marketing pieces to encourage the largest applicant pool in school history (10k+) to enroll.

To get rid of some of the work stress of the week, Eric's been going to the gym most nights after work. The gym he joined has big screen TVs with movies/sports on, so he's actually enjoyed getting a work out. Kim's taken up yoga, and while she is definitely NOT flexible, it is relaxing (and her new yoga pants are super comfy).

Saturday night we went to an Irish pub with friends and watched the football playoffs. The Flyers had another great week, adding two games to the W column and tying their best start in school history! Today we planned out our vacations for the year, including a five-night trip to Mexico this spring and a long weekend to the Ozarks this summer. Watch out world!

In other news, we are the proud owners of a land line. We still have the same cell phone numbers, but if some reason you want to call the house, you can. Let us know if you want the number.
